BitMEX CEO-Crypto would Represent New Asset Class in Next 10 years

Bitcoin (BTC) has the potential to become a replacement quality category within the next 10 years, chief operating officer of major crypto derivatives platform BitMEX claimed on the podcast untied Dec. 16.

Arthur Hayes, chief operating officer and co-founder of BitMEX, the biggest crypto exchange by according daily trade volumes, spoke with host Laura Shin and a bunch of different business leaders at CME's international monetary Leadership Conference last month.

When asked if cryptocurrency represents a replacement quality category, Hayes expressed skepticism, language crypto “is kind of a blend” however that it's “still extraordinarily small”:

“Could it become a bona fidе quality category within the next 10 years? perhaps. Still, jury’s out on whether or not or not Bitcoin is really secure within the future [...] It’s still an experiment.”

Hayes, however, additional optimistically that crypto “could be a replacement approach of raising capital and sending price round the world.”

BitMEX’s chief executive officer additionally weighed in on the long run of trading, saying 24/7 trading — like crypto — can replace standard hours:

Earlier in Nov, Hayes foreseen that this year’s crypto winter may last as long as 18 months, citing “previous experience” of a “nuclear bear market” in 2014 and 2015.

At press time, Bitcoin is trading at $3,755, up almost 6 % on the day, seeing a small rebound when dropping to as low as $3,172 earlier in the week.
