Survey: Blockchain adoption in the internet of Things (IoT) industry more than doubled over the last twelve months

Blockchain adoption in the internet of Things (IoT) industry more than doubled over the last twelve months, a survey conducted by major Dutch cybersecurity firm Gemalto reveals Jan. 15.

According to the survey, corporations within the IoT industry are progressively turning to blockchain tech, with adoption of blockchain more than doubling from 9 to 19 % within the past 12 months.

Gemalto reportedly surveyed 950 information technology (IT) and business decision makers globally. According to the survey information, 90 % of the companies assume that IoT device security may be a vital thought for customers and 79 % are requesting additional strong government-issued security guidelines.

The report notes that — while presumably waiting for governments to intervene with regulation — the industry is popping to blockchain as a potential resolution.

Nearly a quarter (23 percent) of the respondents believe that this technology “would be a perfect resolution for securing IoT devices.”

Furthermore, 91 % of organizations that aren’t presently using blockchain technology declared that they’ll likely think about adopting it in the future.Jason Hart, CTO, data Protection at Gemalto declared in the survey summary:

“Businesses are clearly feeling the pressure of protecting the growing amount of information they collect and store.

But whereas it's positive they're making an attempt to deal with that by investing in more security, like blockchain, they have direct guidance to ensure they are not leaving themselves exposed.”

Gemalto, as per the press release, is that the international leader in digital security, operating in 180 countries and coverage €3 billion (about $3.4 billion) in revenue in 2017.

As Top Market Group reported in September last year, blockchain consortium R3 has deployed a digital ID application developed by Gemalto on the newest version of its blockchain platform, Corda.
