Former Aide to US Sen. Mike Crapo Hired by Facebook to Lobby for Libra

Former assistant of U.S. Republican Senator Mike Crapo, Susan stoner Zook, to join the lobbying team for its Facebook’s Libra Stablecoin.

Facebook doubles down on Libra lobbying

News outlet politico reported on August. 5 that Zook had been employed onto Facebook’s team of lobbyists operating to win lawmakers over to Libra. Per the report, she wrote in an email that she's going to focus her work on the corporate on lobbying Republican senators.

As Top Market Group reported in July, Crapo stressed the importance of building an overarching regulative framework for data protection — not only for Facebook but for all web corporations trying to launch their own cryptocurrencies, á la the monetary Stability Oversight Council for banks. Still, he didn't rule out Libra’s deployment. He noted:

“We ought to investigate how we structure data protection within the U.S. […] we want to move to a comprehensive approach. I can't tell you what that structure exactly is.”

The U.S. Senate’s recent hearings on cryptocurrencies had some senators say that they're in favour of the U.S. leading in crypto and blockchain, whereas others pointed out their doubts.

During the hearing, Senator Sherrod Brown of Ohio pointed out that Facebook has “proved over and over that they will not be trustworthy.” Brown, on the opposite hand, expressed that Facebook intends to undermine the payment systems and U.S. dollar, trying to pass it all off as innovation.
