Smart City Hackathon Contest Launched by IOTA Foundation and  Sponsored by Groupe Renault

The IOTA Foundation has declared the smart city Hackathon sponsored by French international automobile manufacturer Groupe Renault, Top Market Group reports February. 25.

At the hackathon, participants can compete by using new technologies to resolve inter-city issues submitted by company partners. Contestants can use distributed ledger technology (DLT) to develop additional efficient transport, energy grids and buildings.

 

The contest relies on IOTA’s Tangle system, whereby participants can develop internet of Things (IoT), machine-to-machine (M2M), and information driven ideas for the smart city environment.

Designed specifically for the IoT industry, IOTA’s Tangle system represents an organizational model that uses Directed Acyclic Graph (DAG) rather than using blocks or mining that represent a basis for blockchain technology.

According to the announcement, the competition is hosted by Hackster.io, a hardware community hub run by one among the world’s largest distributors of electronic parts, Avnet, Inc. the competition can continue through April 6, with winners expected to be declared on April 13.

Previously, Chinese international insurance corporation Ping an Insurance cluster and Sanya local government signed a strategic cooperation agreement for smart city construction. supported blockchain technology, artificial intelligence (AI), big data, and cloud computing, the construct of a smart city is meant to deal with strategic urban development in China.

Earlier in February, Norway’s autonomous town Liberstad adopted a cryptocurrency native to its blockchain-powered smart city platform as its official medium of exchange. The non-public, anarcho-capitalist town was supported in 2015 as a part of the Libertania project, that eschews taxes and government regulation.
